The Membership Charter
Members of SMARTimbers subscribe to the aims and basic philosophy
of SMARTimbers as expressed in its name -
Sustainably Managed Australian Regional Timbers
|
1.
|
SMARTimbers intends to brand mature,
regionally-sourced timbers on a species specific basis, and
sell associated wood and non-wood products utilising a single
desk co-operative marketing structure.
By acting as a selling agent for its members,
SMARTimbers ensures product aggregation and consistency of
supply, quality control and guarantees as to sustainability,
a unique, niche market brand image and a single point of contact
for buyers.
|
|
|
2.
|
SMARTimbers will aim to value-add members products
as far along the processing path as practicable via a combination
of member investment and the formation of strategic alliances
with processors throughout the supply chain.
By value-adding and developing links with
similar grower organisations, contractors, processors and
exporters, SMARTimbers optimises returns to members, lowers
production costs and improves production efficiency.
|
|
|
3.
|
SMARTimbers will encourage and facilitate stewardship
planning for members plantations and private native
forests, ensuring that all products handled by SMARTimbers
are produced in a sustainable and environmentally responsible
manner using current best practices.
By seeking independent third party accreditation
that confirms its management is sustainable and ISO compliant,
as well as ensuring a chain of custody from the production
site to the end user, SMARTimbers aims to provide quality
assurance to customers and access to premium price markets
that demand traceability back to a sustainable source.
